Hippy Gig Flaring Up this Weekend - blog post image

Hippy Gig Flaring Up this Weekend

Presented by the wacky but never tacky Retro Rehash radio program on Radio Blue Mountains, Happy Hippy Hoedown is the latest in the series of musical dress-up events that always sell out and bring together all ages for the love of music, art, fun and beer.

Punters are encouraged to dress in Disco Hippy Style this Saturday night at Baroque Room Katoomba with funds raised on the night going to RBM 89.1fm and Toolo (the Blue Mountains Tool Library - where you can totes hire out a drone, a circular saw, a guitar, and all sorts).

The night features amazing music with a Hippy theme, and inbetween you'll be able to get far-out with wheelbarrow raffles and art installations.

Event pioneer Willem Hendriksen says "This latest event from Locomotion has a theme centred around Hippy / Disco culture. You will feel like you have stepped into another world, where Scooby Doo struts the dance-floor with glitter in his coat, while the hippies are sipping Harvey Wallbangers. The music will be a hearty mix of funky country, love-pub rock and stellar singer-songwriters with plenty of hippy love anthems thrown in for good measure."

Headlining the show is “Swanee” (John Swan) who just happens to be Jimmy Barnes’ brother joined by the Mountaineers – a supergroup of talent from the local area including members of Sherbet and Choirboys.

Also on the bill are swinging hipsters PaperWill - “It's Paperhill meets Willem Sherlock Roorda”, says Willem Sherlock Roorda himself from a Springwood coffee shop today. The boys have been tossing ideas on songs to play together but their combined busy schedules have left them waiting until the last minute to jam together… in true happy hippy style Roorda says “it’ll all work out fine, I’m looking forward to playing with Oli, he’s an amazing talent.” One thing’s for sure, it’s bound to show off the gritty bluesy side of hippiedom with both Oli and Roorda bashing jazz and blues out in Blue Mountains music venues on a weekly basis. Paperhill last weekend rocking the floorboards of a local house party nearly to the point of collapse!

The lineup:
- Swanee and the Mountaineers
- Hedonistic Pleasures (Melbourne)
- Who's Your Daddy?
- Snail ( + Special guests)
- Paperwill (Feat. Paperhill and Willem Sherlock Roorda)
