Jane Canfield’s new collection from recent travels displays at Rex-Livingston Art + Objects

This September, head on over to Rex-Livingston Art + Objects where renowned local artist, Jane Canfield, will be displaying her new collection ‘All Over the Place”. Canfield’s practice in the French ‘en plein air’ art discipline has drawn admiration in creative circles across NSW and VIC, her signature work is now highly sought by collectors.

Canfield’s new collection ‘All Over the Place’ was inspired from her recent adventures around NSW, from Newcastle to Sydney, to the Warrumbungles and throughout the environs of the Blue Mountains and associated areas west of the Central Tablelands. These travels were taken in her retro 70’s Orange VW Kombi Camper, warmly named "Dot". As the affectionate nickname suggests, Dot was more than a method of transport for the artist. The vehicle provided Canfield a wholistic means of travel functioning as transport, a camper and even a mobile studio when needed.

Canfield says, "Painting en plein air is a way of life for me now, especially now I have Dot to camp where I want to and experience the sense of place and subject of my chosen destinations and interests. I've always got my sketch pad, paints and gouaches close at hand and two black pooches to keep me company.”
"The great use of light and her distinct chalky palette brings an eclectic body of works together in one space, a style and composition that is unmistakably Canfield. Her works have an honesty and developing maturity along with a unique combination of form and tonal ranges, creating a truly identifiable Canfield mark in her paintings, sketches and studies." Says David Rex-Livingston on Canfields new work.

Rex-Livingston Art + Objects opened in the Paris end of Katoomba St, roughly 15 months ago, after many years in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs. With another two galleries nearby, the ‘level section’ of Katoomba St CBD, is now an arts destination and a ‘must visit’ highlight of the Katoomba, Blue Mountains experience.

Jane Canfield’s exhibition, All Over the Place begins on September 1. Opening afternoon drinks are on Saturday September 2 from 4pm.

Rex-Livingston Art + Objects is located 182 - 184 Katoomba St, Katoomba. Open seven days from 10am to 5pm. See www.rex-livingston.com for further details.
