High Stakes on Skates in Roller Derby Event - blog post image

High Stakes on Skates in Roller Derby Event

Witness the action first hand as the local Blue Mountains Roller Derby League (BMRDL) clash at The Katoomba Aquatic Centre, Sunday 30th July. Starting at 12 noon, the day will host four games.

Roller Derby is a fantastic sport for spectators. Big hits and high-speed collisions are a guarantee as each team tries to outsmart the opposition. With sneaky strategies always at play, the sport is both a physical and mental challenge for players. Sydney Roller Derby League describes the sport as a 'full contact chess-game on skates'.

Local favourites the Katoomba ’Free Sisters’ will skate against ’The Empire’ from South Side Derby Dolls on the night at 6.00pm.

BMRDL President, Andrew Hainsworth says the event will be “A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon, with a cake stall, raffles and a bar to keep you fed and hydrated.”

BMRDL is looking for new Derby participants. Currently recruiting Skaters, Referees and Officials. Roller Derby is a great way to get fit, build strength and have loads of fun. So, sign up for Roller Derby and discover what your body and mind are capable of. Age is no barrier! The derby league has members from 18- 50+.

No prior skating experience is needed — just a willingness to give it a go! A training program ’Introduction to Roller Derby’ is offered to all new skaters, commencing August 7th and every Monday night for seven weeks.

An information night will be held at Katoomba Aquatic Centre on July 24th. Email freshmeat@bluemountainsrollerderby.com for details and to register your interest and get free entry to the 5x5 event at Katoomba on July 30th.

Arrive early to secure seats close to the action.
